Equinox/ Full Moon in Pisces 20th SEPT 2021

As we come to the end of Virgo season and the ever-nearing autumn equinox on 21st sept; a time that literally means ‘equal day and night’, we begin to move away from the light and towards the dark.

The veils are thin.

A tipping point where endings and beginnings are more acutely felt.

As the scales move towards equilibrium and libra season on the 22nd, energetically things may feel all over the place and tangibly tense. You may feel pulled to squeeze the last bit of juice out of the playful, social energy of the end of late September summer sun; a time of external connection, and pushed by the productive introspective energy of earthy Virgo season calling us towards autumn; a time of internal reflection.

Moons always evoke reflection.

When the moon is full it means it is in the opposite sign from the season it is in.

This Pisces full moon you could say is the mirror or the polar opposite of Virgo.

This moon is equally efficient (Virgo) and escapist. (Pisces)

Virgo/Pisces Relationship and Themes

Virgo is an earth sign, it wants us to tie up loose ends of unfinished business, deal with endings of all forms, de-clutter, make lists and plans and strategise. Virgo loves a clear and well thought out plan.

Pisces is a water sign, it wants us to rest, cry, dream, connect to soul mates and let our subconscious guide us as we surrender into the ocean of oneness. Pisces is ruled by Neptune which can be a confusin and anxiety inducing energy if not channeled well into music, meditation, tarot magic and being in nature (especially water) to ground.

I have been feeling quite overwhelmed this last month with a myriad of to dos, big decisions and questions and from speaking to my community I know I’m not alone; the tension in the air is tangible and I want to provide an informative blog on being able to be with stickiness of the in-between and the inherent tension in times of transition this Equinox symbolises.

HOLDING THE TENSION OF OPPOSITES

My research for this piece took me to psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s theory called Holding the Tension of Opposites.

Like the wait between asking a question and hearing the answer.

The space between taking a creative/relational/financial risk and reaping the reward.

Or the acute discomfort experienced when asked to make an important choice between one thing or the other and which way to go isn’t clear.

Or that even more sticky place of suspension one of my community shared in our private portal recently where she was in the uncomfortable space between having said no to something she wanted before she had something to say yes to.

VIRGO NEEDS NEEDS NEEDS TO KNOW

Virgo is a measured sign that loves and needs a plan, which of course is great and super useful for strategising creative projects but life isn’t a project and rarely goes exactly to plan. Life is a process, spiralingly messy and something we have very little control over.

This very Virgo themed section from an article in my research spoke of Jung’s theory:

“There are moments in our lives where we find that circumstances have brought some unresolved dynamic within us into critical focus. Perhaps we are having to decide whether or not to change jobs, pursue a new relationship, move house, or make decisions around care for an elderly relative, for example. When faced with challenges such as these we can experience ourselves becoming polarized, caught between opposing choices with no real idea of how to proceed. Once we have become hooked by the dilemma and the internal conflict that lies at the heart of it, the inherent tension can be hard to endure.”- Gavin Conochie

Virgo is a measured sign that more than any other sign, has the tendency to feel acutely uncomfortable and anxious in the unknown.

Shadow Virgo sees the known and unknown through a binary black and white lens and judges it as good or bad to avoid the feeling of uncertainty and underlying feeling of fear when the path ahead is not clear.

HUMANS ARE AVERSE TO UNCERTAINTY AND THE UNKNOWN

The ego’s need to constantly know how things are going to go is a very universal human need for stability through clarity, but it is also a shadow of Virgo that struggles to balance needing to know how things are going to go with its seeming polar opposite - not knowing.

THE PROBLEM WITH LEANING ON POLARITY

The article goes on to reframe the human tendency to default to a polarised mindset:

“Part of the ground of holding the tension of the opposites may be to release the feeling that only a total resolution will do. This, in effect, is another form of polarization, of ‘all or nothing’ thinking. There may be several partial resolutions of a situation along the way before we arrive at an outcome that feels truly satisfying. Underlying the tension brought out in us by the need to make a decision there can be a fear of staying very long in unknown territory. It might be that what is required is to let go of our aversion to uncertainty. For a third way to emerge, we may need to be willing to allow our ideas about how the outcome should look to dissolve, and to recover our ability to be surprised”.

The theory of holding the tension of opposites gave me a lot of personal comfort as I hold the tension in my nervous system of unexpectedly needing to find a new home amidst a fuck-truck of making really important personal, creative and financial decisions with absolutely no solid evidence yet as to whether the risks will be worth the rewards.

I have certainly been letting myself feel the discomfort by grieving some unexpected endings and not knowing where I’m going to end up or how certain important choices will turn out. I’ve been letting myself feel the inherent grief of change.

THE TRANSITION TOWARDS THE EQUINOX IS ASKING US TO BE-FRIEND THE TENSION

The dark side of the moon doesn’t mean there is ‘absence of light’, it still gets light, we just can’t see it. In this instance dark means ‘unknown’.

“What we often fail to appreciate is that the tension we encounter in this kind of decision making is, in essence, a creative force - one that has the potential to bring renewal into our lives. More than that, this tension of the opposites, as Jung called it, can in fact be a necessary pre-condition for real transformation to occur - it's how we grow. If we are able to hold the tension, rather than rushing to choose one option over the other, there is the potential for something new to emerge. This third possibility could be an idea, an image, a feeling, a fresh way of understanding our situation, or a new way of inhabiting it. Its arrival on the scene resolves our dilemma in a way that transcends the need to choose one side over another.”

THIS IS THE EXACT MOMENT VIRGO NEEDS TO BE MORE LIKE ITS COUNTERPART PISCES AND MAKE THE UNKNOWN AN ALLY

Virgo must embrace and integrate its mirror Pisces- a water sign that goes with the flow.

Pisces is a feeler more than a thinker. Pisces allows space for intuition to make decisions over precision.

Virgo thinks and muscles its way hard into the answers and works to create a way

Pisces feels and prays its way hard into the answers and gets out of the way.

Pisces lets it find its way.

Virgo is practical.

Pisces is mystical.

Together they make Practical Magic.

Their relationship creates the energy of another way.

What this Full Moon is asking us to embrace is the Piscean perspective of FAITH that there may be another way and it requires you to get out of your mind and look to the divine.

Enlightened Virgo focuses, shadow virgo forces.

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FOCUS ( virgo light) AND FORCE (virgo shadow)

OVERLY FOCUSING ON NEEDING TO KNOW BLOCKS FLOW (pisces light)

A PRACTICAL EQUINOX MEDITATION FOR FINDING HARMONY AND FLOW THROUGH POLARITY

Shadow Pisces gets drunk or high to escape big overwhelming feelings of uncertainty like anxiety and stress.

Enlightened Pisces makes space to ground and meditate ideally near/in water, journal/write poetry while listening to music to connect to the divine and asks for a sign, and lets it go until it makes itself known.

1. Sit in a comfortable seat with hands on thighs or lie down arms by your side

2. Imagine you are holding the tension of the question of overly needing to know in one hand- let’s call this hand FORCE- which is gently gripped in a fist embodying the energy of anxiety/fear.

3. The other hand holding the energy of not knowing which is taking the shape of an open but relaxed palm where the fingers naturally curl in a little with no muscular effort- let’s call this FLOW- holding the energy of trust/letting go.

4. As your hands rest on your thighs or by your side, welcome the energy of fear by taking a short sharp inhale, hold your breath for 4-6 counts as you tightly grip the Force hand all the way up the arm, then slowly begin to let the breath move out as you send the tension down the arm and out of the other Flow hand softly moving your fingers like water.

5.Keep repeating this embodied practice whilst swapping hands until you feel them as one. Instead of holding either/or you are holding both/and.

This creative friction creates the energy of another way filled with possibility and potentiality.

6. As you hold and feel the tension of FORCE AND FLOW you being to embody the energy of a more balanced way- FAITH.

7. Now let both hands gently come together at your chest, breathe into your heart centre, even the faintest bit of faith and see the polarity dissolve even more and become one.

This is Virgo and Pisces integrated as a powerhouse of productive peace instead of pressurised polarity. No separation.

In doing this, in letting things be in the between, between effort and ease you make space for grace.

Any time you find yourself overly pushing, connect to the pull of prayer, hold the tension, and it will find its way, more than likely in an unexpected way.

Let the powerful and gentle elemental force of water carry the answer your way by getting out of the way mentally and trust the answer is soulfully making its way to you through dreams and signs and serendipities.

NO NEED TO FORCE WHEN YOUR TRUST SOURCE. Trust that what you can’t see is being taken care of behind the scenes.

Maybe you don’t need to know right now.

Closing little Affirmative Equinox Pisces Poem from my Heart for the over-doers who feel like letting things flow is counter-intuitive

You can ride the line between what you are waiting for and what you don’t want to wait for

You can ride the line between where you are now and where you want to be

You can ride the line between what you don’t know and what you think you absolutely need to know

You can ride the line between the break up and the make up.

You can ride the line between the risk and the reward.

You can ride the line between the letting go and moving on.

You can ride the line.

This tension is divine.

Remember to recognise and celebrate your realised dreams. The equinox is a time for honouring the harvest and the bounty around you that you co-created with your soul, your people and the creative force of placing your faith in the divine.

Keeping showing life you trust it,

In the highest love,

FF xxx
